Maungaraki School operates a unique partnership library that functions as our school library during school hours
and as Te Whare Pūrākau | Maungaraki Community Library for the public after hours. This way our shared library provides an amazing resource for the entire community.
The public library is run by Hutt City Library and is open the following hours:
Monday - Friday: 3pm - 6pm
Saturday: 10am - 2pm
Books can be dropped off at the returns box outside the library at any time. You can reserve books and collect them from the library during the public opening hours.
Please Note: For Term 1 the back multipurpose room is being used as a Year 7-8 classroom while building commences on the senior block. The library space will continue to operate as normal during this time.
The Maungaraki School Community Library is SO much more than a cosy enjoyable place to read and borrow books. Every lunchtime various exciting activities are on offer to the students.
These include:
Book Club
Drawing
Sketching Club
Lego
Chess
Quiz, Trivia, and Brain Teasers
Photography Club
Puzzles
Crafts and Sewing
...and lots more!
Heart of the Hill Cafe
In 2025 extension students from the Waihanga programme designed and built a cafe called 'Heart of the Hill' for the library.
It is student managed with pupil baristas preparing and serving delicious coffees, other hot drinks, yummy cakes, and slices.
When the cafe reopens for 2026 the hours will be posted on our school Facebook page.
