About Maungaraki School

Maungaraki School is a Decile 10 full primary school (Years 1–8) located on the beautiful western hills of the Hutt Valley. Serving a community that highly values education and strong school/community links, we typically enroll 360–390 students.

Our school was established in 1999 through the merger of Otonga and Puketiro Schools. Since then, we have consistently grown, implementing an enrolment scheme and modernising our facilities to meet the needs of our learners. Recent developments include the opening of new classroom blocks, a new library and community space (2022), and the continuous evolution of our Modern Learning Environments (MLE) flexible learning spaces.

We deliver a rich, skills-based curriculum focused on the principles of wellbeing and underpinned by our H.E.A.R.T Values. This approach ensures students achieve great results in numeracy and mathematics, as well as across all learning areas.

Our learning experiences are relevant and designed to connect students with their peers, families, community, and the world.

We are committed to nurturing the whole child through a well-balanced curriculum, celebrating success, and providing a wide range of experiences, including:

  • Music, Sports, and Cultural activities.

  • Regular Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) opportunities.

  • A strong focus on Enviro Education.

Powerful Digital
Learning

We integrate powerful technology into the heart of learning. Students are trusted to use high-quality, engaging tools every day.

  • 1:1 Devices: All Year 5–8 students have access to a 1:1 device, providing them opportunities to learn in engaging and self-directed (or independent) ways.

  • Digital Curriculum: A strong emphasis is placed on delivering the digital curriculum in a meaningful, integrated way, supported by external expertise and classroom teachers.

  • Junior Learners: Our younger students engage digitally through iPads, SeeSaw, and other online learning platforms.

Partnerships and Communication

We place increased emphasis on strengthening the partnership between parents, students, and teachers.

We ensure clear and regular communication through our newly redeveloped website (featuring calendars, resources, and newsletters), social media, and online forums.

We value community voice and engagement by:

  • Holding three-way conferences where students collaboratively determine learning goals.

  • Consulting regularly via workshops, information evenings, and surveys.

We are privileged to have a highly supportive community and a passionate, capable staff and leadership team.
