b) To bring Parents, Caregivers, Teachers, Principal, Trustees and Staff together with regard to our mission statement by providing opportunities for:

  • Fundraising activities
  • Social and networking activities
  • Forum for open discussion
  • Links with the wider Community

c) To support and encourage Members and Students.

2. Membership:
All Parents or Caregivers of a Child at Maungaraki School and Staff of Maungaraki School are eligible to be  members of Maungaraki Home & School Association and are entitled to fully participate in any meetings.

We are always keenly seeking more people for involvement in Home & School activities. All levels of commitment are welcome. It is not a requirement to attend meetings to have involvement in Home & School activities and responsibilities.

To enable the smooth running of Maungaraki Home & School there are Officers of the Association. These positions at present are Chairperson and Secretary.  Deanne Scott is currently the  Chairperson, Charmaine Wessels is Secretary and Adele Yee is the Treasurer.

3. Meetings:
These are held on a monthly basis during term time, in the school Staff Room on a Monday evening starting at 7.30pm. Notice is given of each approaching meeting in the School Newsletter. If you can't get to Home & School meetings, you can have your say either by ringing the H & S Chairperson or sending a note to School addressed to Home & School. We will take it into account at the next meeting.

Why Have Parental Involvement?
  • Evidence from many studies suggests WHEN PARENTS ARE INVOLVED IN THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION, THEIR CHILDREN DO BETTER AT SCHOOL.
  • Parents and the community are better able to understand and support what a school is doing.
  • The school is better able to understand the needs and concerns of parents and the community.
  • School programmes are adjusted to meet the needs of children and adults more fully.
  • The Parent/Teacher relationship improves.
  • The Parent/Child relationship improves.
  • Neighbours, who otherwise might never meet, begin relationships and the Community is strengthened.
What is the relationship between Parent and Family Involvement and School Quality?
  • Schools that work well with families have improved teacher morale and higher ratings of teachers by parents.
  • Schools where parents are involved have more support from families and better reputations in the community.
  • Parents are Stakeholders! Your children go to school every day to learn. What they learn at school will determine what kind of future they have.
  • Your interest is in ensuring that your children receive the best education that you can possibly give them. You only get one shot at this!
What is the value of a Home & School?
  • To ensure that our children receive the best education that we can possibly give them.
  • To enable parents, teachers and other staff the opportunity to formally discuss areas of interest.
  • To assist the school with activities where parental involvement is required.
  • To assist parents in being parents.
  • To support the school BOT in development, communication and deployment of policies, strategies and other activities.
  • To encourage fellowship amongst parents, teachers, principal, children and the community.
  • To assist the school with fundraising.
  • To assist in delivering whatever it is that is needed to make education and it's delivery right for us.
