Extra Curricular Opportunities
Maungaraki School has a commitment to provide a wide range of extra curricular activities. We are a member of the Petone Primary Schools Cluster that provides competition for children in:
- Swimming (Term 1)
- Winter Sports – netball, soccer, hockey, basketball (Term 2)
- Cross Country (Term 2)
- Athletics, duathalon, touch rugby, softball (Term 4)
We also offer school sporting teams that participate in after school or weekend competitions
in:
- Netball
- Miniball
- Touch rugby
Children also participate with Grasshopper Tennis during term 1.
The Junior school run a PMP (Perceptual Motor skills Programme) during Terms 2 and 3.
The three Hills Schools also get together for some sporting and cultural events each year – Cross Country, Speech competitions, problem solving competitions.
Our students also have opportunities to participate in a range of extra activities (some attract an extra cost):
- Keyboard lessons
- Guitar lessons
- Drum lessons
- School Band
Our year 7 & 8 students attend Hutt Intermediate for technicraft one morning per week. They have classes in soft and hard textiles including cooking, computer work, woodwork and metal work.
Each year our Year 7 & 8 students have a class camp usually in the Wairarapa. This takes place over a school week with children being challenged with activities such as high and low ropes, kayaking, and a tramp to Mt Pal with an overnight stay in a hut.
