Science Fair

The 2009 Science Fair was a great occasion for exhibitors, staff and visitors alike.

Mrs Jennings said:

"What an AMAZING evening we had at the Science Fair looking through all our talented children’s investigations. We have certainly unleashed our children’s interest in the world around them. I was impressed by the variety of exhibitions from conductors of electricity (I never knew that lemons had this capability); to an amazing hovercraft capable of giving adults a ride; moulds found in different environments (yes, I cleaned my keyboard this week!); the power of vinegar and Coca Cola on eggs and teeth; the qualities of fabrics; an understanding of how bees collect pollen; and what conditions plants need to grow.

Our Maungaraki children have been buzzing around lately carrying out their experiments learning how to persevere with an important task. Seeing their proud aces while they explained what they had found out was the absolute highlight for me
as principal, and displaying their work to an audience gave it purpose and appreciation.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for an inspirational evening. I especially would like to thank the Home and School members for an exceptionally well run event with wonderful home baking that we all appreciated and a glass of wine to sip on while wandering around the exhibits. Thanks also to our classical guitar tutor Cheryl Watterson who played for us, giving the hall a musical tmosphere.
