Enrolment at Maungaraki School
NEW ENTRANTS STARTING SCHOOL
Children can start school on or after their 5th Birthday. At Maungaraki school we have adopted a Cohort Entry policy. This means new entrants start school in cohorts or groups, but only after they have turned five.
There are 2 entry points per term. One on the first day of each term and one at the midpoint of the term as set by the Ministry of Education. We hold 2 or 3 transition to school visits per cohort prior to a new entrant starting school.

Term 1: Cohort 1: Monday 1 February Cohort 2: Monday 11 March
Term 2: Cohort 1: Monday 29 April Cohort 2: Tuesday 4 June
Term 3: Cohort 1: Monday 22 July Cohort 2: Monday 26 August
Term 4: Cohort 1: Monday 14 October Cohort 2: Monday 18 November
TRANSITION TO SCHOOL VISITS FOR NEW ENTRANTS
We will send you a letter approximately 6 weeks before your child starts school outlining their start date and the transition to school visit dates. You are welcome to come into the class to settle your child into the classroom environment anytime between 8:30am and 8:55am on the day. The bell will go at 8:55am and all parents are requested to leave the classroom. Visits are between 8:55am and 10:30am and you can collect your child from the classroom at 10:30am.
VISIT DATES FOR 2024
Term 1:
Cohort 1: Friday 1 December and 8 December and Wednesday 13 December 2023.
Cohort 2: Thursdays 22 February, 29 February 7 March.
Term 2:
Cohort 1: Thursdays 28 March, 4 April and 11 April.
Cohort 2: Thursdays 16 May, 23 May and 30 May.
Term 3:
Cohort 1: Thursdays 20 June, 27 June and 4 July.
Cohort 2: Thursdays 8 August, 15 August and 22 August.
Term 4:
Cohort 1: Thursdays 12 September, 19 September and 26 September.
Cohort 2: Thursdays 31 October, 7 November and 14 November.
TRANSFERRING FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL
Students transferring from another school can start at any time as agreed by the school. Please complete the online enrolment process as outlined below and then make contact with the school office. Families are welcome to visit the school prior to their start date.

Maungaraki School has an Enrolment Scheme in place. All students who live within the Home Zone shall be entitled to enrol at the school. Please check out the enrolment zone details before completing an enrolment form.

This is a provisional enrolment, based on the following information being provided to Maungaraki School before starting school:
Birth Certificate OR Passport (if you do not hold a New Zealand Birth certificate).
Any required Visa documentation. Students not holding a NZ or Australian Passport MUST have either a Student Visa or a NZ residency permit. We also require a supporting Parent Visa (if the child is not a NZ citizen).
Proof of residence/address - we require an original of a current Rates bill, Tenancy Agreement or Sales & Purchase agreement.
A copy of any Court Order Documents (if applicable)

For New Entrants: Once you have completed the enrolment we will contact you approximately 2 months prior to the start date to organise school visits. These usually consist of 3 days in their class from 9:00am to 10:30am in the 3 weeks leading up to their start date, but this may vary.
For other year groups: Contact the school office to discuss a start date and if you would like to make an appointment to visit the school prior to starting.
If you are unable to complete the ONLINE ENROLMENT we can post you an enrolment pack or you can pick up one form the school office between 8:30am and 3:30pm during term time.

NEW ENTRANT PARENT INFORMATION EVENINGS
Join us for an introductory presentation to inform new and prospective parents about the Junior School programs run at Maungaraki School.
